Bigger Text
The first of the features available on the Accessibly widget is a tool to increase the size of text on the web page. The bigger text feature allows users to select from three different font sizes, so website visitors can select the font best suited for their needs. The bigger text tool was designed to help users with visual impairments navigate websites more easily. With the ability to convert web text up to three times as large as the original, the bigger text tool dramatically increases website readability.
Bigger Cursor
The next feature available on the Accessibly widget is a tool that increases the size of the cursor on the web page. This feature immensely increases the size and prominence of the cursor, making it far easier to navigate and browse the web. Many individuals struggle trying to keep track of the cursor, and use it effectively on a webpage. The bigger cursor was designed to alleviate these issues, and make using the cursor simple.
Inverted Colors
The next feature available on the Accessibly widget is a tool that inverts all the colors on a webpage. Inverting colors on a webpage can dramatically increase the contrast between colors. For individuals with visual disabilities or impairments, the increased contrast can make the content more readable.
Contrast
Another feature provided by the Accessibly widget is a tool that allows users to select from varying levels of contrast. Similarly to the inverted colors tool, there is an option to increase the contrast of the website’s colors. However, there is also an option to decrease contrast, as this can be helpful to users with certain visual limitations. Giving users the ability to select their desired level of contrast allows them to find an option that makes the website as readable as possible.
Brightness
The Accessibly widget also provides a tool that allows users to manually change the brightness level of the webpage they are visiting. Users are given options to either increase or decrease the brightness of the webpage. This is an important feature, because many users can benefit from both increased and decreased levels of brightness. This tool is also conformant with WCAG 2.1/1.4.6.
Grayscale
The next feature available on the Accessibly widget is a tool that turns on grayscale for the website. This makes all colors on the website only appear in shades of gray. This feature can be beneficial for users with visual impairments, and help increase readability and navigation.
Reading Line
The Accessibly widget also provides a tool that allows users to enable a helpful reading line onto the webpage. This tool can be especially beneficial on websites with extensive amounts of text. The reading line is displayed across the entirety of the webpage, and can be manually controlled by the user.
Readable Fonts
The next feature available on the Accessibly widget is a tool that converts all text on a given website to a readable font. Accessibly has selected Helvetica as the font text is converted too. This is because Helvetica has been determined to be one the most easily readable fonts. For users with visual impairments, having a readable font can dramatically increase their ability to read and navigate websites.
Tooltips
The Accessibly widget provides a tool that adds easy to read labels to images. These labels contain a written description of the image. This makes it much easier for users to navigate the user interface components of a webpage. Tooltips is designed to address and be conformant with WCAG 2.1/ 2.5.3.
Highlight Links
The next feature available on the Accessibly widget is a tool that highlights every link available on a given webpage. This makes it easier for users to discover and use available links on the website they are visiting. For the visually impaired, highlighted links make navigating online content less complicated.
Hide Images
The Accessibly widget also provides a tool that allows users to hide all images on a given webpage. Hiding images can increase readability for users that have visual impairments.
Read Page
Another feature available on the Accessibly widget is a tool that provides a text-to-speech reading of website content. An out loud reading of a website can help communicate content to individuals who are severely visually impaired. This tool also helps provide website information to individuals who struggle with reading.
Alt Text and Images
The Accessibly widget also provides a tool that provides an alternate text for images displayed on the website. Websites who provide alternative descriptions for images displayed on their website will have those descriptions read by Accessibly’s widget. For images without alternative text, Accessibly relies upon Google’s Vision AI to generate descriptions.
